Bebeto's information


José Roberto Gama de Oliveira, known as 'Bebeto', (born February 16, 1964 in Salvador, Brazil) is a football forward, a World Champion for Brazil in the 1994 World Cup and one of the best players of the from Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña, one os the most important Club in Spain.

Bebeto started his career in 1983 with Vitória and would go on to play for Flamengo, Vasco da Gama, and Botafogo in Brazil, Deportivo La Coruña and Sevilla in Spain, Toros Neza in Mexico, Kashima Antlers in Japan, and Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

He lived through his better sports moments in Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña where is considered to be an authentic idol and where is also considered to be one of the best players of the history of the Club together with Mauro Silva, Fran, Djalminha or Valerón.

Bebeto returned to play in Riazor Stadium in the commemorative party of the centenary of the "Depor" in September 2006, going out to shoulders of the stadium under the canticle "Bebeto you are God", repeated by a crammed Riazor during the whole meeting.

He was elected the best player of South America in 1989.

For Brazil, Bebeto scored 42 goals in 76 caps after making his debut in 1985. He played in three World Cups: 1990, 1994, and 1998. In 1994, he was one of the best players of the tournament, scoring three goals for the eventual champions, and then repeated the feat four years later as Brazil finished second.

Bebeto became a household name for his goal celebration in the 1994 World Cup. His wife had delivered their third child just days before a quarterfinal match against Holland. After the striker pumped the go-ahead goal into the back of the net Bebeto ran to the sideline, brought his arms together and began rocking an imaginary baby. TeammatesRomário and Mazinho quickly joined in.


National Team

Bebeto was international with the Selection of football of Brazil in 112 occasions marking 55 goals. With the juvenile ones he was A World Champion in Mexico 1983.

His debut since as international absolute it was an April 28, 1985 in the match Brazil 0:1 Peru.

His first goal since like international it was a May 10, 1989 in the match Peru 1:4 Brazil.

Bebeto took part in the world ones of 1990, 1994 and 1998, being proclaimed a champion by Brazil in that of 1994, in which attacking couple formed together with Romario, with whom there shared also the forward of the Scratch who achieved the Glass America 1989.
